If you are a dabbler, took art in school years ago, an accomplished artist, wanting to learn, or someone who just appreciates art, check out the many varied offerings of the VAC. We hope you will join us!
All these classes and events are offered for only a yearly membership of $10.00!
The Mission Statement of the Dataw Island Visual Arts Club
The Visual Arts Club is dedicated to encouraging artistic expression and furthering knowledge and appreciation of the arts for its members.
To support the mission statement, the following objectives guide our work:
- Offer opportunities to create art and to display artwork.
- Expand workshop offerings to include basic through advanced instruction.
- Broaden offerings to increase knowledge of art, art history and art appreciation.
- Support the acquisition of art from the VAC artists.
Events and Activities
Workshops and Classes: These are generally held on Monday mornings from 10 – 12 in the Arts and Crafts room of the Community Center. Check the calendar for upcoming events.
Open Studio: Meets every Tuesday morning from 10 to 12 in the Arts and Crafts room of the Community Center. Artists of all media are invited to join the group.
Collage Open Studio: Meets every Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 4. All artists are invited to join the group.
Art History Series: College level art course lectures from the Teaching Company are offered every Wednesday evening at 7 pm at the Community Center.
Studio Tours: Several times a year, tours of local artists’ studios are offered.
Clay Workshops: Clay workshops focus on hand building and are offered in the Spring and Fall. Check the calendar for upcoming classes.
Photography: Instructive workshops and field trips are offered several times during the year.
Special Events
Art Exhibits: There are four exhibits a year featuring original art produced by Dataw artists. Check the calendar for upcoming dates and topics.
Holiday Boutique and Clothesline Event: These events, each held once a year, promote the work of our own artists.
