Open Studio normally meets Monday morning from 10 to 12 in the Arts and Crafts room of the Community Center. Artists of all levels and media are invited to attend.
The Mixed Media Group
is a group of all levels of artists who use more than one medium in the making of their collage/mixed media paintings and assemblages, using custom-made papers that they have painted, dyed, texturized, stamped, or stenciled, along with papers and objects that they have found. Group meets first and third Tuesday of the month from 1-4 PM in the Arts and Crafts room at the Community Center. There is no cost for the bimonthly sessions. Cost of the supplies is shared by all. If you have questions, contact Lynn Brown – email@example.com or Sally Coulton – firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tours of local artists’ studios, both on Dataw and in the surrounding area, are conducted several times a year. A great opportunity to view the work of individual artists, learn about their creative process and how they set up and use their space.
Clay Open Studio:

The photography club is for all skill levels to learn, share, and enjoy the art of photography. The club meets on the second Thursday of each month in the Arts & Crafts room at the Community Center to discuss and demonstrate photography skills and technique as well as to help members learn how to use their particular camera(s). Post-processing and archiving tools and techniques are also discussed. Each month we have a photo assignment and a critique of members’ photos posted in our private area at https://datawislandphotographyclub.shutterfly.com/ As a member of VAC, you are eligible to participate in the photography club; no additional fee is required.
The VAC sponsors four art exhibits a year, each with a different theme, which feature original works by Dataw artists in a variety of media. Each exhibit opens with a reception to which all members of the Dataw Island Club are invited. Exhibit dates and themes are posted on the VAC calendar, located on the VAC website.
The Holiday Boutique provides an opportunity for VAC artists to promote their work and for Dataw Island Club members to purchase unique handcrafted items. The Holiday Boutique, typically held on Sunday afternoon in November or December each year, promotes the work of Dataw’s own artists in a holiday party atmosphere.
The VAC sponsors various special events throughout the year, including field trips, films, parties, lectures and pop-up or clothesline art exhibits. If you have an idea for a special event, please contact a board member. We are always looking for novel ideas for events that will engage, educate and entertain our membership.
